We founded SMART Marine Products Corp. (SMPC) in 1995. As two highly
experienced yachtsmen, we had been bothered for years by the problem of
spray while sailing and power boating. Our goal was to develop,
manufacture and market a unique and revolutionary new approach to
controlling bow spray on commercial and pleasure craft.
A study of the market revealed that the available plastic, wood or
fiberglass rails, which are mechanically fastened, throw the spray out,
away from the hull, where the wind picks it up and blows it right back
onto the boat and its crew. For the rail to be effective it must REDIRECT
the spray down. THE
SMART-RAIL®
does exactly that (we joke that "we put the water back into the water
where it belongs"). Furthermore, rails that are bolted or screwed
often cause leaks (from hitting pilings and bending the bolts). THE

NEEDS NO BOLTS OR SCREWS...so no leaks!
It took three years to test various designs and research the many new
high-tech industrial adhesives used in heavy industry. Our design criteria
were:

- No holes in the hull
- Reliability
- Ease of application
